Caminero’s early homer helps Rays outlast Rockies 13-9

Early swing sets the course

Caminero put Tampa Bay in front in the top of the first inning, and that early margin mattered as the Rays beat the Colorado Rockies 13-9 on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at Coors Field.

With Aranda scoring on the play, Caminero homered to right center at 422 feet for a 2-0 lead. Tampa Bay widened the gap in the second. Walls singled to right to score Palacios and Simpson, Piper moved to third, Díaz hit a sacrifice fly to right to bring in Piper, and Aranda singled to right to score Walls for a 6-0 lead.

Rays keep adding

The Rays pushed the score to 7-0 in the top of the third when Simpson reached on an infield single to second and Mullins scored. The Rockies got on the board in the bottom of the inning on Tovar’s homer to left center at 398 feet.

Caminero homered again in the top of the fourth, this one to left center at 442 feet, making it 8-1. Karros singled to center in the bottom of the fifth to score Freeman and move Tovar to third, cutting the Rays’ lead to 8-2.

Tampa Bay added two more runs in the top of the seventh. Mullins singled to left to score Aranda, with Mullins going to second and Caminero to third. Simpson followed with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Caminero.

Rockies rally late

The Rockies answered in the bottom of the seventh. McCarthy hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Johnston, and Karros singled to left to score Tovar, making it 10-4.

Aranda doubled to center in the top of the eighth to score Walls. Moniak homered to right center at 447 feet in the bottom of the eighth. Palacios homered to right at 416 feet in the top of the ninth, with Mullins scoring, to put Tampa Bay ahead 13-5.

The Rockies scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth. McCarthy doubled to left to score Tovar, Carrigg doubled to left to score McCarthy and move Karros to third, Goodman hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Karros, and Moniak hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Carrigg.

Pitching and records

Ian Seymour earned the win for Tampa Bay, allowing seven hits and two earned runs over 6.0 innings with no walks and nine strikeouts. Michael Lorenzen took the loss for Colorado after allowing seven hits and seven earned runs over 3.0 innings, with three walks and no strikeouts.

Tanner Gordon pitched 6.0 innings for the Rockies, allowing eight hits and four earned runs with no walks and three strikeouts. The announced attendance was 19,598. Tampa Bay is 66-46, and Colorado is 45-68.
