First-Inning Surge Defines Contest
The Miami Marlins established immediate control in the opening frame, exploding for six runs against Sacramento Athletics pitching. The offensive outburst began in the top of the first inning when Edwards drew a walk, allowing Hicks to score and advancing Lopez to second base while Stowers reached third. The inning continued to expand when a passed ball by Athletics catcher Langeliers allowed Stowers to score, while Edwards, Lopez, and Stowers advanced further around the bases on the same play. Another passed ball by Langeliers subsequently allowed Stowers to cross the plate again, extending the Marlins' lead.
The scoring pace accelerated when Hernández launched a 414-foot home run to center field, driving in Lopez and Edwards to make it 5-0. Marsee followed with a 381-foot home run to right field, pushing the margin to 6-0 before the inning concluded. Edwards added another run in the bottom of the first via a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing the total to 7-0 after the opening frame.
Stowers Continues Power Display
Jorge Soler and Stowers were the primary catalysts for Miami’s offensive output. Stowers homered twice during the game, providing critical insurance runs later in the contest. In the sixth inning, Stowers hit a 368-foot home run to right field, increasing the lead to 8-5. Later, in the eighth inning, Stowers launched a 388-foot home run to right center field, adding two more runs as Hicks scored, making it 10-5.
Caissie capped the scoring in the ninth inning with a 390-foot home run to left field, driving in Ruiz for the final tally of 12-5. The Athletics managed to respond with their own power, as Kurtz hit a 457-foot home run to center field in the third inning, scoring Williams to make it 7-2. In the fourth inning, McNeil doubled to center field, driving in Bolte, Kuroda-Grauer, and Cortes to narrow the gap to 7-5.
