A Historic Home Run
Riku Okamoto provided the game's defining moment in the fifth inning, launching a solo home run to left center that traveled 442 feet. The blast set a Blue Jays rookie record for career home runs, bringing his season total to 25.
Toronto had already built a six-run lead by the end of the fourth, but Okamoto’s power extended the advantage to 7-3, signaling that the Rays' comeback hopes were fading.
Early Dominance
The Blue Jays jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first inning. Marcus Semien scored on a single by George Springer, followed by a double from Sánchez that brought Springer home. Toronto continued to apply pressure in the third when Kirk hit a two-run home run to left center, pushing the score to 4-0.
The fourth inning proved decisive, as Toronto added two more runs on wild pitches from Martinez, while Tampa Bay managed only one run on a wild pitch from Soriano.
Rays Attempt a Comeback
Tampa Bay showed resilience in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to cut the deficit. Walls singled to center, driving in Mullins and Palacios. However, the Blue Jays responded immediately in the fifth with Okamoto’s homer and a single by Bateman that scored Clement.
