Alcantara’s Masterclass
Sandy Alcantara delivered a commanding pitching performance to lead the Miami Marlins to a 7-2 victory over the Athletics at Sutter Health Park on Sunday. Alcantara earned the win, improving his record to 10-4, by navigating through the Athletics lineup with precision and power. He pitched eight innings, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out eight batters. He also issued one walk, keeping the Athletics off balance for the majority of the game. Relief pitcher Tyler Zuber closed out the contest in the ninth inning, working one hitless inning with one strikeout to secure the win.
Offense Explodes Early
The Marlins’ offense provided ample support for Alcantara, starting with a quick burst in the third inning. Mack opened the scoring with a home run to right field, giving Miami a 1-0 lead. The team extended its advantage later in the same inning when Lopez homered 375 feet to left field, driving in Hicks to make it 3-0. Lopez continued to be a key offensive threat, doubling to left in the fifth inning to score Sanoja, pushing the margin to 4-0.
The Marlins added insurance runs in the seventh inning. Stowers launched a 377-foot home run to left center, bringing in Hicks for a 6-0 lead. Although the Athletics managed to score a run in the seventh when McNeil hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring Bolte home, the damage was already done. In the ninth inning, Edwards singled to left to score Stowers, making it 7-1, before Bolte reached on an infield single to shortstop. Cortes scored on a throwing error by shortstop Lopez, with Bolte advancing to second, resulting in a final score of 7-2.
