LeQuint Allen could receive more playing time when the Jacksonville Jaguars face the Denver Broncos in Week 2. Head coach Liam Coen expects the running back to take on a more consistent role, Yahoo Sports reported, citing Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.
Allen returned to practice the previous week while recovering from a hip injury. He was available for Jacksonville’s season opener against Cleveland but played only one offensive snap.
During his rookie season, Allen became a regular third-down option because of his work in pass protection. The Jaguars’ offensive staff also intends to involve him more as a receiver this season, an area in which he was productive at Syracuse.
Jacksonville’s other running backs, Bhayshul Tuten, Chris Rodriguez and Ameer Abdullah, combined for two targets against the Browns. Further details about Allen’s expected workload against Denver were not provided.
