Florida's primary election is today, Tuesday, Aug. 18, and St. Johns County voters who did not cast a ballot during early voting have one day left to do it.
Early voting in the county ran Aug. 8 through Aug. 15. Voters who need a polling location, a sample ballot or their registration status can find them through the county Supervisor of Elections at votesjc.gov, or by calling 904-823-2238.
What is on the ballot
This is a party primary, so voters are selecting nominees for the November general election rather than choosing officeholders outright.
It is also the first Florida election conducted under the congressional districts the Legislature approved and the governor signed in May, which makes the results an early read on how the new map performs.
The race at the top
The most watched contest is the Republican primary for governor, an open race because Gov. Ron DeSantis is term-limited and cannot run again.
The field is crowded. U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds has led recent polling and carries President Donald Trump's endorsement. Others in the race include Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner and businessman James Fishback. DeSantis has not endorsed a candidate to succeed him.
