Mack breaks through
Mack's 407-foot homer to center in the top of the fifth broke a scoreless game and supplied Miami with its first run. The drive was the only home run of the game and put the Marlins ahead 1-0 at Citi Field.

Pete Fairbanks recorded his 17th save with one inning, no hits, no earned runs, two walks and one strikeout. The four Miami pitchers combined to keep New York off the scoreboard while allowing five hits and five walks. They struck out eight.
Mets keep it close until the ninth
New York's pitching kept the margin at one run from the fifth through the eighth. Robert Stock took the loss, falling to 0-1, after five innings with three hits, one earned run, no walks and four strikeouts.
