A live pitch competition returns to Nocatee on Aug. 19, putting six local startups in front of judges with potential investment on the line, according to News4JAX.

"It is a live pitch competition, think a Shark Tank-esque thing, but local to Jacksonville," Cheyenne LeMaire of Chang Robotics and the Chang Robotics Fund told the station.

The field is winnowed before the event: local companies submit, and a selection committee chooses the six who pitch, LeMaire said.

As for what wins, LeMaire said the judges look at the person before the product. "Our judges are looking for three things primarily. One, they're looking to have confidence in the founder," she said, along with high growth potential.

For a master-planned community better known for its splash parks than its cap tables, the event is a reminder that the area's startup scene increasingly runs through St. Johns County.
