Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie linebacker Josiah Trotter made NFL history in his first game, recording both an interception returned for a touchdown and a sack against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1. The Buccaneers lost the game, but Trotter provided a standout performance on defense.
Sports.yahoo.com reported that, according to FOX Sports reporter Greg Auman, Trotter became the first player in league history to produce a pick-six and a sack in an NFL debut. A social media post included with the report also credited him with seven tackles.
Trotter was selected by Tampa Bay in the second round. His interception touchdown and quarterback takedown came as the Buccaneers defense gave up 33 points to Cincinnati. Tampa Bay also had turnovers on offense during the loss.
The result came as Tampa Bay begins its effort to return to the playoffs after missing the postseason last year. The report said the loss did not immediately separate the Buccaneers from the NFC South because the other teams in the division also lost in Week 1.
Cincinnati is an AFC opponent, giving Tampa Bay additional opportunities to improve its position within the conference and division.
