The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have secured a significant player ahead of the 2026-27 NFL season by signing Pro Bowl defensive tackle Vita Vea to a fully guaranteed one-year contract extension valued at $30 million. This agreement ensures that Vea will remain with the team through the 2027 season and effectively addresses his earlier trade request made during the summer.
General Manager Jason Licht expressed confidence in Vea's contributions to the team, stating, "Vita is exactly the type of player and person we want to build around in Tampa Bay." Licht highlighted Vea's impact as a dominant force on the defense, an exceptional teammate, and a leader within the locker room.
He emphasized the importance of retaining core players like Vea in maintaining the team's winning culture.
Despite Vea's presence, the Buccaneers' defense showed room for improvement last season, ranking 19th in the NFL and allowing an average of 337.2 yards per game. As the new season approaches, Polymarket traders are predicting defensive rankings for fantasy football, with the Buccaneers currently placed at just 4% odds to lead, trailing teams like the Seahawks and Rams.
