The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Barika Kpeenu, a running back from North Dakota State, to their training camp roster, as reported by Greg Auman of FOX Sports. This addition comes shortly after the Buccaneers' recent victory over the New York Jets, which raised questions about the performance of rookie Kadarius Calloway.

Calloway struggled during the game, managing only 13 yards on eight carries and muffing a kickoff return. His teammate, Josh Williams, had a more productive outing with 27 rushing yards and a touchdown. Auman suggested that Calloway's performance could lead to his release, although no cuts have been confirmed yet.

Kpeenu had an impressive collegiate season, rushing for 1,005 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns, ranking fourth in the FCS. He was recognized as a Third Team FCS All-American and earned First Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors. His playing style is characterized by speed and agility, which North Dakota State utilized in their zone running schemes.

The Buccaneers already have a strong running back lineup, including Bucky Irving, Kenneth Gainwell, and Sean Tucker, who are expected to take the majority of snaps. Irving is making a comeback after an injury-plagued season, while Gainwell and Tucker are anticipated to play rotational roles.

Kpeenu, along with Williams and Calloway, will be vying for the fourth spot on the depth chart. He will have the chance to demonstrate his skills during the upcoming practices leading to the preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Coach Todd Bowles has indicated that starters may play in the preseason opener, but their playing time remains uncertain.

Kpeenu's performance could be pivotal in showcasing his potential as a 1,000-yard rusher.

Further details regarding roster changes and player performance are not yet clear.
