The Miami Dolphins have announced the release of linebacker Mason Reiger, who was waived with an injury designation following the team's preseason game against the Washington Commanders, where they lost 20-7.
Reiger, an undrafted free agent this offseason, was initially viewed as a promising addition after being projected as a fifth-round talent by NFL.com. He had a notable college career, accumulating 13 sacks while playing at Wisconsin and Louisville, but his history of injuries may have contributed to his undrafted status.
At the time of his signing, he was recognized for his performance at the 2026 Shrine Bowl, where he was named defensive MVP. Despite this, Reiger struggled with injuries throughout his college career, including a significant knee injury that required surgery and a bone graft, which led to him redshirting his 2024 season.
The Dolphins have retained Reiger's rights due to his waiver with an injured designation, meaning if he goes unclaimed, he could end up on injured reserve with the team. The future of Reiger's career remains uncertain as he attempts to recover from his current undisclosed injury and potentially find a new opportunity in the league or return to the Dolphins in 2027.
