The Miami Dolphins' preseason opener has highlighted concerns regarding the team's roster depth, particularly at the quarterback position. Second-year quarterback Quinn Ewers has struggled during training camp and in the preseason, raising questions about his standing on the team.
Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald noted that Ewers is facing significant challenges, stating, "There is nobody in training camp having a tougher training camp than Quinn Ewers." Kelly indicated that Ewers' performance has been disappointing, especially given his potential as a better quarterback than what he has displayed.
He mentioned that if the Indianapolis Colts were to cut quarterback Anthony Richardson, the Dolphins would be interested in bringing him in, which could put Ewers' position at risk.
Ewers' preseason statistics reflect his difficulties; he completed only 1 of 8 passes for 27 yards and threw an interception during the opener. His struggles are compounded by a groin injury that will keep him out of training camp for the time being.
Kelly remarked that Ewers is not the only quarterback struggling, as third-string quarterback Cam Miller also had a poor showing, throwing two interceptions.
