Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Jacob Parrish has a back sprain after leaving the team's 33-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, coach Todd Bowles said. Parrish was removed from the game during the second half after being listed with the injury.
Bowles said Monday that X-rays and an MRI did not show a more serious problem. "Both X-ray and MRI came back negative, so it's just a matter of getting over the soreness," he said.
Parrish started at cornerback after moving from the nickel role he held last season. The Buccaneers have had limited depth at cornerback during the offseason, and the team had been encouraged by Parrish's progress.
If soreness keeps Parrish from playing, Benjamin Morrison is expected to take his spot. Morrison stepped in after Parrish exited against Cincinnati and recorded four solo tackles along with a tackle for loss.
Tampa Bay is scheduled to play the Cleveland Browns in its home opener on Sept. 20. Whether Parrish will be available for that game was not yet clear.
