Home Runs Shift Momentum
The Tampa Bay Rays overcame an early deficit with timely power hitting, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2 on Saturday at Tropicana Field. The game’s critical turning point arrived in the fifth inning when Randy Aranda launched a 391-foot home run to right center. The blast not only extended the Rays' lead but also drove in one run, making the score 3-1 and effectively breaking open what had been a tightly contested contest.
Aranda was joined in the power display by Wander Franco, who had earlier tied the game in the first inning with a 361-foot shot to left field. Franco’s homer erased Arizona’s early 1-0 advantage, which had come from a first-inning single by Geraldo Perdomo that scored Corbin Carroll.
Pitching Standouts
Arizona starter Jose Cabrera took the loss after allowing four earned runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out four batters but struggled with command, issuing two walks. The Diamondbacks’ bullpen, including Juan Morillo, Kevin Ginkel, and Taylor Clarke, worked to keep the game within reach but could not prevent Tampa Bay from pulling away.
For the Rays, Michael Grove earned the win by pitching three scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit and struck out four batters, showcasing sharp command. Casey Legumina and Kevin Kelly provided relief with scoreless frames, while Bryan Baker closed the game with a perfect inning to secure his 21st save.
