Scottie Scheffler expressed openness to the return of certain LIV Golf stars to the PGA Tour, stating that the league possesses players who would provide significant value to the Tour. The World No. 1 made these comments during a press conference on Wednesday ahead of the 2026 BMW Championship, where he and Rory McIlroy are competing for the title.
Scheffler acknowledged that the PGA Tour’s overall talent depth is unmatched, but he noted that the upper echelon of LIV Golf includes competitors he enjoys facing. He stated that having the best players in the world compete against one another is the ideal scenario for the sport.
"I think the depth that we have on our Tour is a bit unmatched, but I think when you look at the higher levels of LIV Golf there's definitely some players that would provide a lot of value to the Tour, and guys that I love competing against as well," Scheffler said.
Despite his positive view on their potential contribution, Scheffler emphasized that any returning players should face consequences for their previous departure. He indicated that the specific nature of these penalties should be determined by PGA Tour leadership, including CEO Brian Rolapp. "So I think going forward there obviously has to be, I think, some sort of penalties.
What those are, I'll let Rolapp and all those guys figure it out," he said.
Scheffler’s stance contrasts with remarks made by Rory McIlroy earlier in the day. McIlroy suggested that the PGA Tour does not require the return of LIV’s top stars, implying they have not brought substantial value to the alternative league. While McIlroy expected these players to return eventually, he characterized the path back as difficult.
