Northrop Grumman initiated construction on a new building at its Roy Innovation Center in Roy, Utah, on July 14, 2026. The project aims to support the U.S. Air Force Sentinel Intercontinental Ballistic Missile program and other aerospace missions. The company describes the facility as part of its strategy to expand capabilities for strategic deterrence.
The new structure, referred to as the Legacy Building, is scheduled for completion in 2028. Once finished, the Roy Innovation Center campus will consist of six buildings totaling more than 1.1 million square feet of office space. The expanded footprint is designed to accommodate over 5,000 employees working on national security programs.
Northrop Grumman stated that the expansion will generate hundreds of new positions. The company currently employs more than 11,000 people in Utah and claims to support over 46,000 jobs statewide. A recent study cited by the company indicates its economic impact in Utah exceeds $12.4 billion.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox praised the investment, calling Northrop Grumman a cornerstone of the state's economy and a key contributor to national security. He highlighted the partnership in advancing aerospace innovation and creating high-quality jobs. Ben Davies, president of Northrop Grumman Defense Systems, noted that Utah’s talent pool and proximity to Hill Air Force Base make it an ideal location for the Sentinel program expansion.
Over the past five years, the company reports investing $13.5 billion in infrastructure and research and development at the site. This includes $2 billion dedicated to solid rocket motor capacity to accelerate production for the Sentinel program. The company aims to deliver initial capability for the missile system to the Air Force by the early 2030s.
