The PGA Tour has officially filled a vacancy on its Policy Board by electing Michael F. Roman as a new independent director. The organization announced the appointment during the week of the 3M Open, confirming that Roman begins his service immediately following his election on June 22.

Roman, 66, brings more than 35 years of leadership experience to the role, primarily from his tenure at 3M. He served in various executive positions at the technology and manufacturing company before becoming its chief executive officer in 2018.

He was named chairman of the board in 2019 and later held the title of executive chairman while helping guide the company's strategic direction after stepping down as CEO.

Joe Gorder, chairman of the PGA Tour Boards, highlighted Roman's background in a statement. Gorder noted that Roman is a highly respected global business leader who has demonstrated an ability to drive innovation and navigate complex business environments. Gorder stated that Roman's expertise in corporate governance and strategic transformation would be a significant asset as the Tour works toward long-term success.

Roman currently serves on the board of directors for Abbott Laboratories. The PGA Tour cited his experience in global operations and corporate governance as key qualifications for the position. He was elected to the Policy Board during a meeting held in Hartford on June 22.

The appointment fills an open seat that became vacant at the end of 2025, when Mary Meeker completed her tenure as an independent director. Roman expressed honor at joining the Policy Board during what he described as an important period for the organization.

3M has maintained a partnership with the PGA Tour since 1993. The company became the title sponsor of the 3M Open in 2019. The Tour did not provide further details regarding the specific responsibilities or committees assigned to Roman within the Policy Board structure.

PGA TOUR employs about 964 people in Nocatee, according to local government records.
