Matt Gogel, a professional golfer on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, has received a six-month suspension from the PGA Tour. The penalty stems from wagers placed on golf events, which the Tour determined violated its Integrity Program rules. The suspension period began on Sunday.
In a statement released by the PGA Tour on Wednesday, Gogel acknowledged that he placed bets during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. He clarified that these wagers were not made on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events, or any tournament in which he personally participated. Gogel described the actions as small recreational wagers.
"In 2024 and 2025, I unknowingly violated the PGA Tour policy by placing small recreational wagers on golf," Gogel said in the statement. "I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events or any tournament in which I participated."
The golfer emphasized his commitment to the sport's standards, stating that he would never knowingly compromise the integrity of the game. He characterized the incident as an honest mistake and expressed his intention to return to competition in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions tour.
