Early Runs Define Contest
The scoring began early for Miami. In the first inning, Hernández singled to left field, driving in Stowers to give the home team a 1-0 lead. The margin doubled in the second inning when Lopez scored on an error. Later in the same frame, Lopez advanced from second base and scored on another error by catcher Wong, extending the advantage to 2-0.
The Marlins added to their lead in the eighth inning. Caissie reached first base safely on a fielding error by first baseman Sogard, then advanced to second on the same error. Lopez subsequently scored on the play, making it 3-0. Shortly after, Sanoja singled to center field, bringing Ruiz home to push the final score to 4-0.
