The hit drove in Edwards, who had reached base earlier in the frame, while Ruiz advanced to second. The Marlins, who were the home team, held on for the win after the score was tied at 5-5 following a home run by Seattle's Hernández in the eighth.

Miami responded in the third inning when Marsee singled to right, allowing Conine to score and putting Caissie in scoring position. However, the Mariners added another run in the fourth inning as Stowers hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Hicks to make it 4-0.

The Marlins began their comeback in the fifth inning. Raley hit a sacrifice fly to center, bringing Raleigh home for the first run of the game. Young then homered to right center, a 354-foot blast, to tie the score at 4-4. Miami took the lead in the eighth inning when Raleigh doubled to right, scoring Crawford. Naylor singled to right, and Arozarena scored on an error, with Naylor safe at second on interference by second baseman Edwards. Naylor scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Marlins reliever Calvin Faucher, making it 6-4. However, Seattle answered immediately with Hernández homering to left, a 422-foot shot, to tie the game at 5-5.
