Sanoja Delivers in the Final Frame
The deciding moment of a back-and-forth Friday contest came in the bottom of the ninth inning at loanDepot park. With the score tied 2-2, Javier Sanoja singled to center field. The hit allowed José Ramírez to cross the plate for the game-winning run.
Marsee moved to second base and Ruiz advanced to third, but the Marlins could not add further insurance before the final out. The win improved the Miami Marlins' record to 65-64, while the Washington Nationals fell to 61-69.
A Back-and-Forth Scoring Sequence
The game featured five total runs, with the lead changing hands multiple times. In the top of the sixth inning, Ruiz homered to right field, a 388-foot blast that gave the away Nationals a 1-0 lead. The home Marlins responded in the bottom of the eighth when Sanoja singled to right field, allowing Marsee to score and tie the game at 1-1.
The Nationals regained the lead in the top of the ninth as Lopez singled to right field, scoring Sanoja and making it 2-1. However, Lile singled to left field in the bottom of the ninth, scoring Young and tying the game at 2-2 before Sanoja's decisive hit.
Pitching Performance
The Marlins' bullpen played a crucial role in securing the save. Pete Fairbanks earned the win, pitching one inning while allowing one hit, one earned run, and one walk while striking out two batters. On the mound for the Nationals, Clayton Beeter took the loss after pitching two-thirds of an inning.
