Dominant Pitching Anchors Cleveland Victory
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Joey Cantillo delivered a masterful performance on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings to earn the win. Cantillo allowed six hits and one earned run while walking two, raising his season record to 8-4. His ability to neutralize the Miami Marlins lineup early provided the foundation for Cleveland’s offensive output.
The Guardians’ bullpen maintained the lead with precision. Franco Aleman, Hunter Gaddis, and Shawn Armstrong each pitched one scoreless inning, combining for three strikeouts. Cade Smith closed out the game in the ninth, working one inning with two hits allowed and one earned run, securing his first save of the season.
Early Runs Set the Tone
Cleveland established control in the first inning against Miami starter Tyler Phillips. Phillips struggled from the outset, giving up two runs in his single inning of work while recording one strikeout and one walk, dropping his record to 2-4.
In the top of the first, Rocchio singled to right field, driving in Bazzana who scored from first base. Rocchio advanced to second. Manzardo followed with a single to left, scoring Rocchio to make it 2-0. The Marlins responded in the third inning when Edwards singled to left, bringing home Hernández to cut the deficit to 2-1.
