St. Johns County officials have announced the completion of infrastructure upgrades at the intersection of Preservation Trail, Colonnade Boulevard, and Palm Valley Road in Nocatee. The project, which finished in August 2026, introduced a fully operational traffic signal along with dedicated crossing areas for pedestrians and golf carts.
Construction on the site began in February 2026. Prior to starting work, county staff performed a traffic signal warrant analysis in accordance with federal guidelines found in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The analysis determined that the intersection met the necessary volume requirements for signal installation.
Colonnade Drive and Preservation Trail serve as key residential connectors in the area. These roads experience consistent daily traffic, with volumes rising notably during school hours and peak commuter times. The new infrastructure aims to enhance local connectivity and manage these traffic patterns more effectively.
Michael Likley, project manager for the St. Johns County Public Works Traffic and Transportation Department, stated that the goal was to make the intersection more predictable for all users. "This project is really about making the intersection easier and more predictable for everyone who uses it," Likley said. He added that the signal provides clearly defined movements for drivers, walkers, and golf cart operators.
