The Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach held its annual Passing of the Gavel ceremony on June 25 at Marsh Landing Country Club, officially installing Jennifer Ryan as the organization’s new president. Ryan, who serves as the chief executive officer of Volunteers in Medicine, takes the role from outgoing President Chris Eckols. Ponte Vedra Beach is about 10 miles north of Nocatee.
During the event, Eckols reflected on the club’s activities over the past year and expressed gratitude to members for their dedication to the Rotary principle of "Service Above Self." The ceremony also served to recognize several individuals for their contributions to the group.
Tim Delp was presented with the Rotarian of the Year Award, which honors exemplary service and dedication to the club’s mission. Cara Roach was named Rookie of the Year, a distinction given for her enthusiasm and immediate impact during her first year as a member.
The gathering included a tribute to Past President Ed Waller, who died on June 23. Waller, a retired U.S. Navy captain, led the club during the 2006-07 Rotary year. Family members in attendance included his daughter, Navy Commander Kelly Waller Agha, and his son-in-law, Joe Malzacher.
Rotary International describes the organization as a group of business, civic, and community leaders who volunteer time and resources to address local and global challenges. The Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach supports community initiatives through volunteer service, youth leadership development, scholarships, and charitable giving. The club also participates in worldwide efforts to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, support education, and strengthen communities.
