Quinn Ewers, the Miami Dolphins' backup quarterback, addressed the impact of a groin injury on his performance during the preseason opener against the Washington Commanders. Ewers completed only one of eight passes for 27 yards and threw an interception, resulting in a passer rating of 1.6.
He admitted that the injury, sustained early in the game, significantly affected his ability to throw effectively, particularly since it involved his right groin, which is crucial for his throwing motion.
Ewers did not participate in the following game against the New York Giants but expressed optimism about his recovery, stating he felt good during a recent practice. He completed several passes, including a notable 15-yarder to Chris Bell, who is returning from a knee injury. Ewers mentioned he is not yet at 100 percent but is focused on working through the injury.
In light of Ewers' absence, the Dolphins re-signed Mark Gronowski to bolster their quarterback depth alongside Cam Miller. Ewers stated he remains confident in his competitiveness, regardless of whether the team seeks an experienced backup. He also expressed high hopes for the Dolphins' newly drafted receivers, praising their potential and development within the offense.
