As the NFL roster cut deadline approaches, the Miami Dolphins are making significant changes to their team. By 6 p.m. on Sunday, teams must reduce their rosters to 53 players, leading to the Dolphins releasing at least 23 players today.
Among the notable cuts is veteran linebacker Tyrel Dodson, who had a productive season last year with 119 tackles and five sacks. His release allows rookie Jacob Rodriguez to step into a starting role alongside Jordyn Brooks. The Dolphins also cut tight end Jeremiah Franklin and offensive tackle Gottlieb Ayedze, who had been competing for backup positions.
The team has also let go of cornerback Marco Wilson and safety Lonnie Johnson, both of whom had experience in the secondary. Johnson struggled with injuries during training camp, while Wilson did not secure a backup cornerback position despite an interception in the preseason opener.
Other players released include running back Carlos Washington Jr., linebacker Cam Riley, and receivers Terrace Marshall Jr. and Jalen Reagor. Washington was vying for a backup role but faced increased competition after the Dolphins traded for running back Jarquez Hunter. Reagor, who started in the first preseason game, failed to make a lasting impression.
Additionally, the Dolphins cut backup quarterback Cam Miller shortly after trading Quinn Ewers to Jacksonville. Miller showed potential during the preseason but struggled earlier in camp. The team is currently exploring options for a backup quarterback to support Malik Willis, with several names circulating in speculation.
