The Miami Dolphins have made a significant move by claiming seven players off waivers, the highest number in the NFL, just after finalizing their 53-man roster. This group includes quarterback Brady Cook, defensive backs Reese Taylor, Marcellas Dial Jr., and Julius Wood; offensive linemen Jarrett Kingston and Chukwuebuka Godrick; and tight end Justin Joly.
The influx of new talent comes as the team faces questions about its roster depth and experience, particularly in key positions such as cornerback, safety, tight end, and offensive line.
Chukwuebuka Godrick expressed optimism about the opportunity with the Dolphins, stating, "It’s a great opportunity with a new regime because they’re trying to build something here." The Dolphins' secondary is notably inexperienced, with no starters having more than four years of experience. Cornerback JuJu Brents, the most seasoned player in that group, has only participated in 18 games due to injuries.
Marcellas Dial noted the lack of established players in the cornerback room, emphasizing that this presents a chance for newcomers to prove themselves. The offensive line also shows a lack of depth, particularly at tackle and guard. Godrick, who has won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs, aims to contribute to building a winning culture within the team.
The tight end position has been impacted by injuries to 2026 draft picks Will Kacmarek and Seydou Traore, leading to the signing of Justin Joly. Joly, who was recently cut by the Denver Broncos, sees this as a chance to redeem himself. He stated, "I just got to get my playbook down and get right because they expect me to play."
