Tampa Bay Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht expressed his admiration for wide receiver Chris Godwin during a recent statement, highlighting Godwin's consistency and veteran leadership.
Licht noted that Godwin has been a steady and reliable player for the organization, stating, "I would be remiss if I did not mention [Godwin] for all he has done for this organization and talk about being a consistent, steady, Mr. Clutch player, that is him and he looks very, very good out there right now."
Entering the 2026 season, Godwin finds himself in a new position as the primary target, following the departure of Mike Evans, who signed a three-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers in March. Godwin has recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in four seasons from 2019 to 2023 and led the league in receptions before suffering a dislocated ankle in Week 7 of the previous season.
Last year, Godwin was limited to nine games due to a fibula injury but is now reported to be fully healthy as the season begins. He is expected to play a key role in the Buccaneers' passing game, particularly as quarterback Baker Mayfield's go-to target.
