The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached an agreement with defensive tackle Vita Vea, concluding weeks of uncertainty regarding his contract status. This new deal secures Vea, a key player on the team, for the next two seasons.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the agreement was finalized on Wednesday, following Vea's trade request in late July amid stalled extension discussions. Vea was entering the final year of a four-year contract, which included approximately $18 million in compensation for 2026. The new contract increases his earnings to $48 million over the next two years, fully guaranteed.
The Buccaneers are providing Vea with a $6 million raise for the current year, adjusting his compensation from $18 million to $24 million for 2026, and an additional $24 million for 2027. Vea had remained with the team during the negotiation period but had not participated fully in practices as discussions continued.
Earlier on Wednesday, Schefter noted a shift in the tone of negotiations, indicating a more optimistic outlook and suggesting that Vea was focused on finalizing a deal rather than pursuing a trade. With the agreement now in place, both the Buccaneers and Vea can refocus on the upcoming season.
