Tampa Bay Buccaneers third-year edge rusher Chris Braswell is at risk of being cut from the team's roster following a lackluster performance in the preseason opener. According to Scott Reynolds from Pewter Report, younger players like Jack Pyburn and Mo Kamara have shown promise, leading to speculation that Braswell could be left off the 53-man roster.
In the preseason opener, Braswell played 26 snaps but failed to register any statistics, with his most notable moment being a missed assignment that allowed a running back to break outside. He received a low defensive grade of 34.4, which reflects a continuation of his struggles throughout his NFL career.
Despite being a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Braswell has not yet secured a starting position in any of his 34 games played.
Over his first two seasons, Braswell recorded only 1.5 sacks and has seen a decline in performance, which has led to diminishing confidence from the coaching staff. The Buccaneers have bolstered their edge rusher position by drafting Rueben Bain and extending veteran Yaya Diaby, solidifying their top two spots.
Additionally, Al-Quadin Muhammad was signed this offseason, and fifth-round pick David Walker, who missed his rookie season due to injury, has also outperformed Braswell in the preseason.
