The Jacksonville Jaguars have activated tackle Cole Van Lanen from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, providing some relief for the team and its fans. However, the offensive line has been plagued by injuries this offseason, which poses challenges as the regular season nears.
Starting guard Patrick Mekari is expected to miss a considerable part of the season following back surgery on August 17. Although a decision regarding his placement on injured reserve has not yet been made, he is anticipated to return later in the season. Other offensive linemen have also faced injuries, with backup Chuma Edoga recently returning to practice after an injury in the preseason opener.
Walker Little and rookie guard Emmanuel Pregnon have also missed time but are back in practice, competing for playing time amid Mekari's uncertain status.
Currently, Van Lanen and Anton Harrison are confirmed as the starting tackles, with Robert Hainsey set to start at center. The starting guard positions remain uncertain. Offensive coordinator Liam Coen acknowledged the impact of injuries on practice, stating, "You just get thin.
You start putting more reps on other guys that may not be truly prepared for the amount of reps that they then have to take."
