The Miami Dolphins are preparing for the upcoming regular season, set to begin on September 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders, while awaiting the full return of rookie wide receiver Chris Bell. Head coach Jeff Hafley provided an update on Bell's recovery progress following the team's recent 26-3 loss to the New York Giants.
Hafley indicated that Bell is getting closer to returning, noting that he is still wearing a red jersey, which signifies he has not yet been cleared for contact. "When he takes his red jersey off, he'll be cleared for contact, and we'll be ready to go," Hafley stated. The team plans to meet with trainers to assess Bell's status further.
The Dolphins' receiving corps is in need of reinforcement, especially with standout performances from rookies like Caleb Douglas during training camp. Bell, who was previously projected to be a late first-round pick, was selected by Miami with the 94th overall pick after suffering an ACL tear last December.
Last Monday, Bell was activated from the active/non-football injury list, and he participated in his first pre-game routine on Saturday. Hafley expressed that it was beneficial for Bell to experience the routine, emphasizing that it would help him acclimate to the league, whether or not he plays in a preseason game.
