The Miami Dolphins have released tight end Ben Sims after reaching an injury settlement with him. The move removed Sims from the team’s injured reserve list, according to the NFL transaction wire.
Sims joined Miami in March on a one-year contract ahead of his fourth NFL season. The Dolphins placed him on injured reserve after the Sept. 1 roster deadline. The team has not disclosed the nature of his injury.
Because of the settlement, Sims can sign with another team once he is healthy. Remaining on Miami’s injured reserve list would have required him to miss at least the first four regular-season games.
Sims entered the NFL as an undrafted player in 2023. He initially joined the Minnesota Vikings, then signed with the Green Bay Packers after failing to make Minnesota’s roster at the end of that year’s preseason. He spent more than two seasons in Green Bay before returning to Minnesota for the end of the 2025 season.
Across 45 NFL games, Sims has recorded 11 receptions for 93 yards and one touchdown. His best receiving season was 2024, when he made four catches in 17 games, including five starts for Green Bay. In 2025, he had three receptions for 30 yards on six targets in eight games with Minnesota.
