The Miami Dolphins have made a significant change to their quarterback lineup by releasing Mark Gronowski from the practice squad. Gronowski, who holds the title of the winningest quarterback in college football history, was cut earlier this week as the team continues to adjust its roster during the offseason.
Gronowski's college success primarily came at the FCS level with South Dakota State before he transferred to Iowa for the 2025 season. While at Iowa, he transitioned to a more run-oriented style of play, completing 63.4% of his passes for 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions, averaging 133.9 passing yards per game. His notable contributions included 130 rushing attempts for 545 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns.
This preseason, Gronowski had limited opportunities, completing 6 of 13 passes for 98 yards and taking three sacks. He also rushed six times for 37 yards. The Dolphins decided to cut him to make space for other players on their practice squad, including former first-round picks Clelin Ferrell and Mazi Smith.
Malik Willis has been established as the starting quarterback for Miami, with Kyle McCord, acquired from the Packers, and Brady Cook, who was cut by the Jets, competing for the backup position. Given the current depth chart, Gronowski was unlikely to secure a spot on the active roster, and his future in the NFL remains uncertain as he looks for opportunities elsewhere.
