During a joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. experienced a scare when he landed awkwardly on his left shoulder after making a touchdown catch. The incident occurred on the first 11-on-11 play of the practice, showcasing Thomas's speed as he leaped over the goal line to secure a deep pass.
Despite the fall, Thomas managed to get up and briefly re-enter the scrimmage, but he did not participate further in the practice. Jaguars head coach Liam Coen commented on the situation, stating, "I think he's alright. Just came down on his shoulder. I think holding him out was smart."
The Jaguars are hopeful that Thomas will be ready for their upcoming game against the Cleveland Browns. The team is also dealing with injuries to other key wide receivers, Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers, who have missed practice time due to undisclosed issues. Meanwhile, Travis Hunter has focused solely on cornerback duties during this period.
Washington stepped up during practice, making several impressive catches, including a touchdown in redzone drills. The extra practice opportunities were also given to sixth-round rookies Josh Cameron and CJ Williams, with Cameron scoring a touchdown and making contested catches, although both rookies faced challenges in separating from defenders.
Coen expressed satisfaction with the team's ability to adapt in the absence of key players, noting the offensive efficiency despite the challenges. He mentioned the need for improvement in separation on certain throws but acknowledged the progress being made by the team.
