LeQuint Allen is the Jacksonville Jaguars’ primary injury question ahead of their Week 1 home opener against the Cleveland Browns. The running back is officially listed as questionable because of a hip injury.

Allen did not practice Wednesday, then participated on a limited basis during both Thursday’s and Friday’s sessions. His increased work later in the week provides no guarantee that he will play, and his status is expected to be evaluated again before the game and during pregame warmups Sunday.

Jacksonville’s other running backs, Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr., are available. The team is otherwise entering the opener in mostly healthy condition, with Allen described as the only remaining significant uncertainty.

Allen is beginning his second season with the Jaguars after playing at Syracuse. During his rookie year, he was used primarily in third-down situations, including pass protection and receiving work. Those abilities have been valued by coach Liam Coen and quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The Jaguars’ backfield is also adjusting after Travis Etienne left in free agency and signed with the New Orleans Saints. Tuten, Allen and Rodriguez are the remaining options discussed for the team’s running-back rotation, although there is no established lead back in the source material.

If Allen cannot play, third-down responsibilities would be among the areas Jacksonville would need to address. Tuten and Rodriguez had already been competing for early-down work, and both could receive additional opportunities if Allen is unavailable. If he plays, the other two backs would likely see fewer snaps.
