Banks, who was not selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, joined the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent after playing at Alabama and Mississippi State. He spent most of his time with the team on the practice squad and appeared in three games last season, primarily contributing on special teams without recording any notable statistics.
Entering the 2026 season, Banks was vying for a depth position in the secondary but was placed on injured reserve, effectively ending his season before it began. The waiver allows him to sign with any other NFL team, as he is believed to be healthy enough to play again this season.
Despite his experience, Banks faced significant competition for a roster spot due to the Buccaneers' strong safety lineup, which includes standout Antoine Winfield Jr. and emerging player Tykee Smith. The team also has depth in Ifeatu Melifonwu and Miles Killebrew, making it difficult for Banks to secure a position.
