The Miami Dolphins have undergone substantial roster changes in the lead-up to their Week 1 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Over the past two days, the team traded one player and waived or placed several others on injured reserve or the reserve/PUP list as they finalize their 53-man roster.

A notable move was the trade of quarterback Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars, following a lackluster performance from him and two other quarterbacks, Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski, during training camp and preseason. The Dolphins have since acquired Kyle McCord from the Green Bay Packers, who has familiarity with the team's passing game coordinator, Kevin Patullo.

In the wide receiver group, the Dolphins retained seven players, including Malik Washington, Jalen Tolbert, Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell, and Kevin Coleman Jr. The decision to keep A.J. Henning and Ryan Miller was unexpected, particularly since Miller had only participated on special teams in the preseason finale after being claimed off waivers shortly before.

The Dolphins also made a surprising cut by releasing linebacker Tyrel Dodson, a starter last season, which indicates confidence in rookie Jacob Rodriguez, who is expected to start alongside Jordyn Brooks in the upcoming game.

In the secondary, the Dolphins moved cornerbacks Storm Duck and Darrell Baker Jr. to the reserve/PUP list due to their absence from practice all summer. Additionally, they cut veteran cornerbacks Marco Wilson and Alex Austin.

The team may need to bolster their safety position, having released Lonnie Johnson Jr., Louis Moore, and Major Burns, leaving them with only three players in that position, two of whom are inexperienced.

The Dolphins are anticipated to make further additions to their defensive backfield in the coming days as they prepare for the season opener.
