The Miami Dolphins are set to sign Coleman Bennett, a 24-year-old undrafted rookie running back, as they navigate recent challenges within their running back roster. Bennett, who hails from Fort Lauderdale, previously trained with the Chicago Bears during the offseason but was waived on August 17.
With the Dolphins still finalizing their 53-man roster, Bennett is being brought in to help fill the gap, especially as key players Ollie Gordon II and Donovan Edwards were absent from practice. This leaves De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and Carlos Washington Jr. as the remaining options at running back.
Bennett's football journey includes a notable stint at Cardinal Gibbons High School, followed by college football at Bucknell from 2021 to 2023. He later transferred to Rice, where he had limited offensive opportunities. His standout season occurred at Kennesaw State, where he rushed for 764 yards and four touchdowns, contributing to the team’s victory in the 2025 Conference USA Championship.
Additionally, he was recognized as a First Team All-Patriot League Return Specialist in 2023 for his performance as a kick returner.
In his time with the Bears, Bennett made an impact during their first preseason game against Cleveland, scoring a touchdown on four carries. However, he did not participate in the subsequent game against Cincinnati.
