Vilade and Palacios Lead the Charge
The Tampa Bay Rays secured an 11-3 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday at Tropicana Field, driven by significant power hitting from Ryan Vilade and Richie Palacios. The win improves Tampa Bay’s record to 60-43, while Cleveland falls to 54-51.
Vilade set the tone early in the second inning with a 365-foot home run to left field. The blast gave the Rays an early 2-0 lead, as DeLuca scored from first base on the play. Vilade would later reach second base on a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning, highlighting his active night at the plate.
Palacios added to the offensive output in the eighth inning with a 388-foot home run to right center. His shot scored two additional runs, Mullins and DeLuca, pushing the Rays’ lead to 11-1. The three home runs in the game were all accounted for by these two players, with Cleveland’s Hedges also going deep later in the contest.
Scoring Sequence and Game Flow
Cleveland managed to get on the board in the fourth inning when Rocchio doubled to left field, allowing DeLauter to score. The Rays responded immediately in the same inning with a flurry of runs. DeLuca singled to left to score Mullins, followed by Williamson scoring on a fielder’s choice that left Vilade at second and Simpson at third.
Fortes then singled to center to bring Simpson home, extending the Rays’ advantage to 5-1.
The Rays continued to build their lead in the sixth inning. Caminero singled to left, advancing Díaz to second and Fortes to third. Fortes scored on an error by catcher Hedges, making the score 6-1. In the seventh, Fortes doubled to center, and Williamson scored, increasing the margin to 7-1.
