Seymour Dominates the Plate

Ian Seymour delivered a masterclass in strikeout pitching for the Tampa Bay Rays, fanning 12 batters over 5.1 innings to secure the win against the New York Yankees. The performance marked a significant milestone for Seymour, who improved his record to 6-1 with the victory. He allowed five hits and three earned runs while walking no batters, showcasing exceptional command throughout his outing.

Seymour’s dominance was the defining feature of the game, as he navigated through the Yankees' lineup with precision. His ability to generate swings and misses kept New York off balance, preventing them from establishing any sustained offensive rhythm during his time on the mound. The 12 strikeouts stood as the highest single-game total of the contest, highlighting his effectiveness in critical moments.

Early Yankees Lead

The New York Yankees struck first in the second inning, taking an early 2-0 advantage. Mesa Jr. opened the scoring with a home run to right field, measuring 367 feet. Díaz followed with a single to left field, driving in Palacios to extend the lead to 2-0. The Yankees appeared poised to build on their early momentum, but the Rays quickly responded to shift the game's trajectory.

Tampa Bay took control in the third inning with a three-run surge. Rice homered to left center, a 382-foot shot that also scored Schuemann and Grisham. This pivotal play flipped the score to 3-2 in favor of the Rays, marking the turning point of the game. The Rays' offense continued to apply pressure in the fourth inning, where they added three more runs to take a commanding 6-3 lead. Palacios doubled to center, scoring Walls, before Feduccia launched a two-run home run to right center (396 feet) to make it 6-3. Díaz then capped the inning with a solo home run to right field (368 feet), pushing the score to 6-3.

Rays Hold On for Win

The Yankees managed to score in the seventh inning when Sánchez hit a sacrifice fly to right, allowing Chisholm Jr. to score. This reduced the deficit to 6-4, but it was not enough to overcome the Rays' early lead. The Tampa Bay bullpen closed out the game effectively. Kevin Kelly, Cam Booser, Garrett Cleavinger, and Bryan Baker each contributed shutout innings to preserve the victory. Baker earned the save, his 24th of the season.

On the mound for New York, Will Warren took the loss, falling to 7-4. He pitched 4.0 innings, allowing seven hits and six earned runs while striking out three batters. Tim Hill, Paul Blackburn, and Brent Headrick combined for 4.0 innings of relief, allowing just one hit and no earned runs. The game was played at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, before a crowd of 18,115 spectators. With the win, the Rays improved their record to 53-36, while the Yankees dropped to 50-41.
