Abreu’s Power Display
Rafaela Abreu provided the offensive spark for the Boston Red Sox, hitting two home runs to help secure a 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park on Friday. His power surge was critical in overcoming an early deficit and ultimately separating the two teams in a high-scoring first inning.
Abreu’s first blast came in the top of the first inning, a 422-foot shot to right-center field that tied the game at 2-2 by driving in Rafaela. He added another home run later in the contest, a 405-foot drive to right-center in the third inning that gave Boston a 4-3 lead.
Those two home runs accounted for all five of the Red Sox runs in the game.
Early Scoring Exchange
The Rays jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. DeLuca singled to left field, allowing Caminero and Vilade to score. DeLuca advanced to second, and Mullins reached third on a throwing error by left fielder Duran. Contreras then homered to left-center field (367 feet) to cut the deficit to 2-1 before Abreu’s tying homer.
In the bottom of the first, Caminero homered to left field (423 feet) to tie the game at 3-3. The Rays reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning when Seigler doubled to right field, scoring Cheng to make it 5-3. Boston did not add to their total after that, holding on for the win.
