Mariners Rally Past Rays 8-2 Behind Crawford's Two Hits

Seattle's offense exploded for eight runs, led by two hits from Crawford, including a three-run homer, to defeat Tampa Bay 8-2 on Sunday.

Crawford Powers Seattle Offense

Crawford delivered the decisive blows as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 8-2 at Tropicana Field. Crawford recorded two hits, including a two-run double in the second inning and a three-run home run in the fourth, driving in five of Seattle’s eight runs. The victory snapped a five-game losing streak for the Mariners, who improved to 48-49 on the season. Tampa Bay dropped to 56-38.

Early Runs Set the Tone

Seattle took control early in the second inning. Robles hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Naylor to score from first base and placing Garver at third. On the same play, Crawford doubled to left field, scoring Garver and Young while moving Kennedy to third. The Mariners added another run in the fourth inning when We. Wilson homered to left field, measuring 401 feet. That single swing extended the lead to 4-0.

Home Runs Expand the Lead

The Mariners’ offense continued to pile on in the fourth. Crawford connected again, hitting a three-run home run to right-center field, 378 feet away. The blast scored Kennedy and Crawford, pushing the score to 7-0. Tampa Bay responded in the eighth inning when Aranda homered to left field, 337 feet, with Díaz scoring to make it 7-2. Crawford added an insurance run in the ninth, doubling to right field and scoring Kennedy to finalize the 8-2 count.

Pitching Performance

Seattle’s bullpen was largely effective until the late innings. Emerson Hancock started for the Mariners, pitching 1.2 innings with no hits or earned runs allowed, striking out two batters. Jose Ferrer earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out two. Nick Davila, Gabe Speier, Michael Rucker, and Andres Munoz each pitched one or more scoreless innings. Eduard Bazardo allowed two earned runs in one inning. Andres Munoz closed the game with a perfect inning, striking out two.

For Tampa Bay, Ian Seymour took the loss after allowing five earned runs on six hits in 3.1 innings. Cole Sulser gave up one earned run in 0.2 innings. Chris Roycroft pitched 3.0 scoreless innings, striking out three. Craig Kimbrel allowed one earned run in 1.2 innings, and Kevin Kelly pitched 0.1 innings with one walk. The game drew an attendance of 24,297.
