The Carolina Panthers defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-17 on Friday night at EverBank Stadium in a preseason Week 2 matchup that featured no established Jacksonville starters, according to ESPN, Jaguars.com, and The State (Columbia, S.C.).

Scoring by quarter, per ESPN and the Jaguars' official box score, ran Carolina 7-13-7-7 and Jacksonville 3-3-0-11. The Panthers finished with 385 net yards to the Jaguars' 318.

Starters watched; reserves played

The State emphasized that the game did not feature Jaguars starters. Carolina's first-team offense played two series: Bryce Young completed 5 of 6 passes for 49 yards, and running back Jonathon Brooks scored on a 1-yard rush, The State reported. Young's unit was on the field for 11 plays across those two series.

Jacksonville's night was carried by depth players. Per the Jaguars.com box score, Joey Aguilar completed 9 of 10 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown; Nick Mullens went 6 of 7 for 65 yards; and Carter Bradley was 6 of 13 for 51 yards with an interception.

Trebor Pena caught four passes for 72 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown from Aguilar in the fourth quarter, after which DeeJay Dallas ran in a two-point conversion (ESPN scoring summary).

How Carolina built the lead

ESPN's scoring plays show Brooks' early touchdown, field goals from both sides, an AJ Dillon 7-yard rushing score, and a 61-yard field goal by Ryan Fitzgerald at the half that made it 20-6. Kenny Pickett threw a 16-yard touchdown to Roc Taylor in the third quarter, and Kyle Trask hit Casey Washington for a 15-yard score in the fourth before Jacksonville's late touchdown.

Pickett finished 15 of 25 for 137 yards and a touchdown for Carolina, per Jaguars.com. John Metchie led Panthers receivers with six catches for 77 yards.

What it means locally

For Nocatee and Jacksonville-area fans, Friday was less a referendum on the 2026 starters than a depth-chart and evaluation night. The Jaguars fell to 1-1 in the preseason (ESPN).

Next on the calendar, per multiple camp reports tied to this week's schedule, are joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Aug. 25-26 and the preseason finale against Tampa Bay on Aug. 28 at EverBank Stadium.

The final score was lopsided. The context was intentional: Carolina got useful snaps from Young's group and beyond, while Jacksonville kept its front-line players out of harm's way for an exhibition that still filled the home stadium with August football.
