Palm Beach International Airport was officially renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport on Thursday, becoming the latest in a series of institutions, buildings and government programs to take on the name of the Republican president, who maintains his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach.
The renaming was required by state law. On March 30, 2026, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation amending Section 332.0075 of the Florida Statutes, which preempted to the state the authority to name major commercial service airports and renamed the Palm Beach airport after Trump. The name change took effect July 9, 2026.
The Federal Aviation Administration's location identifier for the airport changed from PBI to DJT on July 9. The International Air Transport Association code used by airlines and travelers will change from PBI to DJT on Aug. 18, 2026; until then, passengers should continue to use PBI when booking flights. The airport has said airline operations, routes and services are unaffected, and that a phase-in of signage and branding will occur over time.
The Palm Beach County Department of Airports estimates the total cost of implementing the name change at about $5.5 million, including signage, wayfinding and technology updates. The state appropriated $2.75 million toward the project, with the remainder funded through the Department of Airports' operating budget and capital program. The county said no local property tax dollars are used for the change.
